Self Analysis

On the first day of class, I had different expectations for the course material. I was nervous on the first day after learning about the presentations and course format. Instead, I learned things I did not expect to learn and got to experience observing others’ learning. Today, I am much more comfortable expressing my ideas and presenting my research.

I enrolled in this class with the goal of understanding social media popularity and influence. I learned a lot about how social media is intertwined with many socioeconomic and cultural issues. This information is useful for my other research. Some concepts from this course that I have mastered are the psychological effects on social media and the relationship between government and social media. Studying Government surveillance, social media regulation and moderation, abusive content and harassment, and social media activism are some good examples of specific takeaways relating to this concept. It is important to understand these concepts as a Political Science major.

In this course, I have improved a lot when it comes to incorporating my research into my writing and including relevant sources. I can improve more in the future by becoming a better writer overall. Throughout this semester the structure and organization of my papers has improved greatly but there is always room for improvement. This course has encouraged me to diversify my reading list, and my future research will reflect that.
