It is safe to say that practically everyone who uses social media platforms is pretty much 'self-taught.' Before taking this course, I knew the basics of social media. I frequently used platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, and TikTok, and when I first downloaded them, I learned how to navigate through them on my own.
On the first day of school, I was not completely sure what to expect. I knew that we would be learning about social media, but I didn't really have any other guesses on what exactly we would learn. I would say that I am a better version of myself, and this is because I feel more comfortable talking about issues that present themselves on social media. An example would be the problem with constant surveillance. I also feel more comfortable interacting with others on the platforms I use. Before this course, I didn't really comment on people's posts or threads, but now I feel more at ease.
After taking the course, I realize that there was so much more to social media than just what I knew. I learned the different ways in which communities communicate with each other. This course has allowed me to get a better understanding of what goes on in the world of social media.
