Wattpad is a platform for writers to publish new user-generated stories. It aims to create social communities around stories for both amateur and established writers. The owner is WP Technology. It was founded by Ivan Yuen and Allen Lau. Since the company hasn't changed it's ownership since it's creation and its goal was to give anyone a place to write and public their writing.
They have rating systems and the more popular the story the higher the rating. The multitudes of people that use the site cause competitive ratings, it is hard to get a following/readers. There is a way for successful writers on the site to make some money, though most just use it to post fanfiction. It gives everyone a chance and to be a part of different communities within the site.
There are rules that we must follow on the site; you can't post content that is violent, pornographic, or hateful. They want to keep young kids who go on the site safe and not to make anyone uncomfortable or feel unwelcome. In most of their rules, they are understanding but draw a line when they will remove the content. I think that is important and created a good environment for people to share their stories.
