The Economics of Social Media

Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger created Instagram in 2010. In 2012, Facebook became the official owner of this social media site. Instagram has its regulations and features that help censor inappropriate posts or messages. Of course, it is difficult to censor everything that gets posted on Instagram, but just because it is difficult does not mean they should stop trying to tackle this problem. I have heard that Instagram takes down any post automatically if they consider that it violates their guidelines. This site has features that help users report any conflicting feed. Instagram gives people the ability to restrict, block, or remove people without letting them know. Also, this site allows people to self-report any content they believe is improper. This is helpful because a user can control certain aspects, and people do not have to depend or wait on Instagram to act. If Instagram lets an inappropriate post slip, which does happen, people have the means to report it and bring it to Instagram’s attention. I mean there is a lot of content that they do not censor, but the top two that come to mind are explicit posts or hateful comments.
