Social Media to me is anything where there is interaction online through messages, or posts. That, I think, is what I would define it in its most simplest form. I'm sure a lot of people would disagree and feel like its something more specific but that to me is social media.
Thinking about it, there's a lot of thing that I didn't quite consider "social media" but based on my interpretation, are. I mean you have your apps and websites like Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter but there is more that are and yet aren't seen that way. Starting with Youtube. I think Youtube for me is very social and it is a media. People post their videos, and from their people interact. People can like or dislike it, comment, share, just like on Facebook. Yes, there is a HUGE variety of videos on Youtube, but that doesn't make it any less social. Maybe there is a direct message feature, but people do reply in the comments. Also, I think Reddit is a social media, for the same reason. And not many people consider that social media but I think it is.
I think the reason we don't really consider Youtube a social media is because it's not easy to be social on there, because again there isn't a direct message tab and you have to comment and hope someone comments back. Really I think it boils down to our feeling of being entitled to receive a reply and privacy. I think that's really it. It might not be a really intimate social media but it is one. And I think it says a lot about our human desire to be intimate with each other.
