Social media to me is the composition of networks that allow communication and the pass of information online. Such networks like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram among other platforms are some of the core platforms that construct the meaning of social media. I see social media composed into two different parts, the "social" and the "media" aspect of social media.
The Social aspect of social media to me comes down to communication. This can mean communicating in any platform of text, video, still, or audio forms of communication online. It is a way for us to communicate in a nonphysical environment over the internet. In such ways that I think that communicating over the internet has become its language as a means of messaging. Such examples would be the abbreviation of a word like “lol”, “brb”, “ttyl” which I believe by now we all are familiar with. With this said, this is the way many of us communicate, thus are the unwritten language of social media.
The Media aspect of social media then follows the communication aspect using information. As we communicate in this type of website or apps mention, we share and pass information among peers. Whether is from news or memes, this information is been shared socially via the internet to communicate a message in a massive form. Thus, this type of media, additionally allows hundreds of users to interact and discuss issues among each other in matters if seconds.
In conclusion, Social Media has become what it exhibits via applications and web pages that allow users to socialize online. We communicate with each other over instant messaging in a way that could be considered its language. Thus has become one of the ways we share and receive massive amounts of information as we can instantly interact with each other about different subject matters.
