I define social media as a form of communication that exists by using the internet. Social media consists of apps like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, and Twitter, that allow people to create content, share, comment, connect, and communicate with others. I would say platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams are sites that we traditionally do not consider as social media. I used to think social media was just about liking and sharing posts, but there is more to it. It also facilitates the way we communicate with people. What makes these sites social is that they help us stay connected. We can start group chats or send direct messages, join video calls, share files, and collaborate virtually.
As the world continues to evolve, social media will always have a different meaning for everybody. Maybe before the internet and all these apps existed, television and the newspaper were classified as “social media.” Now, look at how much social media has advanced. Although we live in a digital era, social media continues to be another form of communication.
