Many challenges are present in sites like Wikipedia. For example, one of them is that it is not a secure or reliable source to get information. I remember when I was in middle school, and teachers would assign us projects that required research, they always said, “Don’t use Wikipedia. It doesn’t count as a source.” Looking back, I think we relied on Wikipedia because it would be the first website that came up on the search results, and we did not want to take the time to research. I eventually learned why teachers were annoyed when we utilized it. Anyone can go in and make edits to the content that is on there. So, we face the risk of consuming and spreading misleading information. Similar sites that encounter the same problems as Wikipedia are Encyclopedia Britannica, Encyclopedia.com, and Answers.com. These three sites compare with Wikipedia because they are all open to the public to access, edit, and are free. These sites do not have many controls because they grant anyone the ability to modify their pages.
