Pre- Web Technology
One of the pre-web technologies I remember that I use
to own was a GoGear 1GB MP3 player. I remember I used it a lot when I went to the
gym, worked out from home and when I would travel with my parents. I thought it
was the coolest thing ever. My GoGear 1GB MP3 player would store a limited
amount of music, required AAA batteries, and it had a round button where you
were able to shuffle through the music. Now I use my iPhone to listen to music.
Using Siri, which is voice command, takes me straight to Apple Music. Apple Music
has about 70 million songs and is a subscription service that allows you to
stream music and videos. Apple Music has an expanding catalogue of artist and
songs and includes other media such as podcasts and internet radio. It is obvious
that technology is changing rapidly, has become better and convenient, and it
amazes me all the time.
Jennifer Serrato
An old pre-web technology that I remember as a kid was the VHS movies and film videos. I remember having my collection of the Barney series and my favorite childhood Disney movies. To watch the tapes, one would have to purchase a VCR and that’s how you were able to view the content. Today however, rarely anyone owns one and if they do, they probably have it as a souvenir. Now we have media services such as Netflix which are full of television series and movies of all kinds. It requires no tapes and no VCR to use, one simply has to have access to the internet and make an account in Netflix. Both sources allow you to watch a media file however, Netflix is much more convenient and is internet based. Who would’ve thought that the way we watch media was going to evolve and revolutionize our lives?
