Defining Social Media

Social media is easily accessible through the internet where people can come together and share their own ideas, likes, network with each other, and do so much more. Social media has become such a large part of most people's lives that we would not be able to imagine the world without it. The media aspect of social media can include sharing photos, videos, text, music, audio, and other forms of content. These forms of media can be quickly created and shared among others and is a huge way that people communicate with each other. When someone thinks of social media apps, we tend to think of sites like Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, and Facebook just to name a few. I think sites that we do not "traditionally" consider as social media would be applications like Skype and Zoom. The social aspect would be the way we are able to socialize and communicate with each other, in a video chat form. These two examples of a social media form that are not traditionally considered can be used in a more professional environment and have been used much more in the past months due to the ongoing pandemic. I believe that social media is evolving right in front of us and it can be difficult to identify what forms and examples of social media exist and how much we are able to understand it.
