Blog Post 2 : Defining Social Media

 

I define social media as a site where users can express their interest, discuss them amongst one another, and, create profiles. Furthermore, users can typically post pictures or videos that one another can comment on.Youth typically do not consider blogs as social media, however, I do. Although it is not in the same format as Instagram or Facebook, it is similar to Twitter. With that being said, there is a timeline with user-created content, consisting of ideas for others to view. The exclusion of some forms of media as it relates to classifying them as social media means that there are guidelines a site must follow in order to be considered social media. For example, the site must have a way of connecting a community, forming a communal bond from things such as user-generated content.
