Meme

The meme that I can relate to the most is the "Crying Jordan" meme. This meme was being used on message boards and in a few instances on Twitter. The meme blew up and started being everywhere. Most people had no clue what it represented or how it originated.

I chose this meme because it represents my pre- 2k connection to the internet, and how some of us are way ahead of others when it comes to creating content online that can cross cultural barriers. Michael Jordan himself had to acknowledge the meme and admitted he was tired if seeing it, lol. Ironically he said this when he was speaking at Kobe Bryant's homegoing and he was crying at the time. That too was turned into a "Crying Jordan" meme, but isn't used as much because of the setting in which it happened.

Memes give individuals power to highlight injustice, point out inconsistencies in the way people handle situations, and they can be used to create awareness. This particular meme caused people to wonder if Michael Jordan had a health issue that he needed to have looked into because of the deep redness of his eyes when he cries.
