Facebook offers users the ability to start a group page, and there are groups for just about everything you can imagine. Over the years I've joined a number of FB groups for several different subject matters. But well before Facebook came along I was already a long time member of a message board.
The members of the message board definitely feel like we are part of a community. We all share similar likes and dislikes and have a love for certain items. Members set up regional meet ups to put faces with screen names, and at these meetings members bring different items to display and show off. You get to know one another and learn things about one another's personal life.
It's fun having a virtual meeting place to share opinions and perspectives on a variety of subject matters. I've been a member of the community for several years and although my activity isn't as frequent as it used to be, I still chime in on a few subject matters to share my insight and knowledge with hopes that it can help someone else.
