Blog Post # 2- What is social media?

 There many different versions of social media that fit many different definitions of social media. I would say that for a platform to qualify as social media it must facilitate some sort of communication and provide ways for users to exchange some form of media. Platforms such as Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook also allow this kind of communication and many consider these to be some of the biggest social media platforms available. There are some services that border being a social media platform but I don't think they fully meet the requirements. Spotify allows you to follow and share playlists with other users but that's where communication ends and begins. It fulfills the sharing of media requirements but there isn't a way to directly communicate with friends. Therefore I wouldn't consider platforms such as Spotify as social media. It more closely fits the role of just being a streaming service.
